EucBowl Aftermath

As part of our adventures at EucBowl, RightStuff and I both became members of the NAF (http://www.thenaf.net) so our first tourney results would count.  In the aftermath it seems that I am now the 6th best Khemri coach in Australia, and Right Stuff is number 13 for Slann!  I should definitely switch teams while I'm ahead :-)

BB Team Naming Help

While the Snr Caver goes away the Jnr Comes out to play(not like i did anyway :) )That's right , Right Stuff here and I am telling you about this amazing site i heard on Zlurpcast Tactic Zone. The site is called Gitzman's Gallery and on it is many many Warhammer Fantasy Maps and so people who like making their teams from places in the old World(like me)you can go through them and find a place them make your team! For example, I decided i wanted to play Vampires on the Computer so i went through some maps found some history and came up with the name.... Cripple Peak Creepers! I then went and did Chaos Dwarves and did the same thing and got ..... The Dark Land Decimaters! so these map go from the Ogre Kingdoms in the East through the empire and all to the Dark Elf Lands in the west so yeah these maps are big!

Enjoy the website!

All at Sea

Regular visitors to The Man Cave will have noticed that the rate of posts has dropped dramatically of late.  That's primarily because I have switched my focus to Modern Naval Wargaming....in 1 to 1 scale.
Here is my new toy and yes it takes a lot of Codex Grey to do the ship's side!  All these pics were taken during my first week in Command, in some rough seas off Sydney.

Eucalyptus Bowl

Hi, Right Stuff here and here is the report of how I went at the biggest tournament in Australia, Eucalyptus Bowl.

Now my team choice was interesting but being a rather naive 11 yr old, I took Slann. Here is the team roster that makes up the Cold Blooded Croakers.

   The Cold Blooded Croakers

  1. Hemlock
  2. Blitzer with Strip Ball
  3. Catcher with Dodge
  4. Catcher with Sure Hands
  5. Catcher with Pass Block
  6. Catcher
  7. Lineman
  8. Lineman
  9. Lineman
  10. Lineman
  11. Lineman
   3 Re-Rolls
   1 Fan Factor

 Game 1:Dwarves (No Team Name)
It all started when I won the toss and elected to kick. I set up and readied myself for the slaughter that I thought was to come. He the set up with everyone on the line and after rolling good weather the match was on!   He started turn one with some blocks on the line a stun here and there but nothing completely horrifying. pick up the ball, moved some guys Hey Presto! He had a cage.  I then did what Slann do best, use the leap and leapt into the cage got the ball and ran towards the End zone. Completly horrified and out of position he couldn't reach so I ran in.1-0 Slann. we set up again and he did the same thing so I jumped in again except skulled out. I then tried again and again until it worked on turn 7 when I did the same as before got the ball and ran in. 2-0 Slann to call halftime. Then I got to receive i did some risky things that paid off(casualizing a Runner and a Blocker and knocked out the other Runner and another Blocker), And then scored. 3-0 Slann. Right, 6 turns to go. If I can turn him over and score again then that would be legendary but my dream started going down hill when he knocked out a catcher and a lineman and cazzed a Blitzer and a lineman. When hope got up again as the sky turned cloudy and rain begun to fall on the pitch. I thought it was great because his runners were out and I had some AG 4 so I sprinted down there and stalled, till turn 8 when I scored the fourth and final touchdown of the game.
Game 1 Result:
TD: 4-0 Slann
Cas:2-2
Deaths:0-0

Game 2: The Raging Wood(Wood Elves)
This is the game where Nuffle started to turn against me. I won the toss and elected to kick realizing what a mistake I had made i placed the ball and we were ready to go. Nuffle really didn't like me this game and my one player that made him scared, Hemlock, was imediatly eliminated by being knocked out by a thrown rock on the opening kick off. he picks up the ball with a catcher and makes a bubble around the ball carrier i get a guy leap in and...Skulls! Re-Roll. Skulls! My Blitzer goes down and is casualised. He then ran up hand off and touchdooooooowwwwwwwn!1-0 Woodies. We then set up again. and of course it a blitz he gets under the ball, catches it, and get him protection. Since i was completely not ready I couldn't get to him so 2-0 Woodies.Set Up. Blitz. 3-0 woodies. the Half time siren sounds and both teams return to the team lockers, my team in defeat with 3 casualties against the froggies so far and 3-zip down in the scoring game(the exact game they are meant to win)they are signaled to get back out on the pitch and soon enough the ball was in the air and right into the hands of a lineman.Just to be smacked down by yet a third Blitz! 4-0 Wood Elves. Then the next  drive went exactly how you would expect them to. Another elf touchdown. Then hopefully i could score on the last 2 turn drive. No. It just had to be another Blitz. So in this Game i got a serious dose of being Elfed.

Game 2 Result:
TD: 6-0 Wood Elves
Cas: 5-2 Wood Elves
Deaths:1-1

Game 3: Humans (Unknown Name)
This game game was about the same. He wins the toss and elects to kick.so we set up...(at this point i am hoping for it to not be a Blitz. But it was a Perfect Defense. Much to my delight i score!(And there was much rejoicing)(Horay)but then He scores. He scores again. Then he kills Hemlock and a lineman, and then scores again. And Again. And Again And Again. At the end of the game i found out he was NAF rated #4 for playing Khemri,Humans and many other teams in Australia so yeah.

Game 3 Result:
TD:6-1 Humans
Cas:5-0 Humans
Kills:2-0 Humans

So yeah thats how my weekend for ya. But at least ill get to play my dads Chaos Dwarves that he won . When he paints em up and they will get chewed by my chaos team the Knights who say Ni. But thats another weekend in the life of Right Stuff.

Game 7 vs the All French Company

Norse game 7 was against a human team, the All French Company coached by Michel from
France. It was the League leader vs league wooden spoon, and the humans were resplendent in their red, white and blue colours!
The teams trade pre match pleasantries and head-butts
Reilly had 240k in inducements and took a wizard and Boomer Eziasson as a star a player. Weather was fine and the human team got FAME (gate 23,000). Reilly won the toss, chose to kickoff and setup in a deep formation.

The ball landed just inside the line of scrimmage and was scooped up quickly by a human thrower after making a few good blocks along the line and running a thrower downfield. The Norse blitzed said catcher, stunning him handily as they moved to contain the human push down the left hand side and got their own runner heading downfield. The humans caged up more tightly and fended off a Norse blitz before the Yeti got a both down blocking a human lineman, stunning them both. The humans blocked their way out of the cage setting themselves up for a pass as the stunned human catcher recovered and dodged his way further downfield. The Norse kept crowding the ball carrier and also and stuck to the thrower like glue but a Norse blitzer was KOed along the way. A Norse runner blocked down the ogre (with his dauntless skill ) and then a lineman blitzed down the ball carrier. The pigskin dropped into three human tackle zones though and they grabbed it up handily on next turn after KOing a runner. With a 2 player advantage and the yeti being too wild to respond to the coach, the humans were able to eventually clear a path through the dogged Norse Defence. The ball scattered out bounced back in midfield, and the French pulled off a heroic pass action to run in the TD at the end of turn 8. Or would have if he hadn't rolled a 1 for the dodge with the receiver after he caught the pass... The Norse thrower dodged out, picked it up, sprinted, spiraled an accurate short pass to a downfield runner who then sprinted twice to score!!! 1 nil to Norse at half time.

Norse received in the second half, but with Both KOs not returning and Boomer Eziasson taking the field. ( the human also had their KOed thrower not return, so both teams had 10 players on the field). The ball landed way back in the end zone, bounced out for a touchback and the Norse offense began. Hillarious bomb antics ensued and after some juggling it exploded on the Norse line and knocked down 3 Norse players! The humans poured through the gap and sacked the ball carrier - trouble for the Norse!. The lads rallied to get the ball back on the ground, injuring 2 humans in the process before the Frenchmen rushed the ball up to the line. The wizard's lightning bolt knocked it free again, a Norse blitzer grabbed it a chucked it downfield to clear the scoring danger, the long pass was accurate and caught by a lineman in a tackle zone, who ran down field while the yeti clawed open the ogre's armor and charted him with a badly hurt. Five players down, the humans had limited options, but a timely 1 die block put the Norse ball carrier down and KOed him.
Fee Fi Fo Fum - I want the blood of that Frenchman!
The ball scattered out, bounced back and a scrum ensued. A human blitzer pulled off a crowd pleasing dodge, pickup, dodge, sprint, long pass combination and suddenly the ball was back in the Norse half with the ball on the ground. Reilly thought he was suddenly an elf player and threw a long bomb back which was inaccurate but sitting just inside the human end zone. Turn 6 and things were getting desperate for both teams. The human return chuck occurred next turn and Reilly was in a good spot to strike until double skulls ended his turn on the first block. The humans had two turns left to capitalize and couldn't pickup the ball. Neither could the Norse next turn either! The humans performed some last turn desperation moves to get the equalizer, with no rerolls remaining. A block, a blitz, a pickup, 2 sprints, a pass later it scattered onto the ground when the catch failed and the siren blew to finish off the game - Norse win!!!!

Reilly had very hot dice today but got a bit greedy in the second half, focusing on getting the casualties (and spp) instead of playing the safer options to assure a second TD. C'est le vie and good experience.

Michel goes through to the playoffs of course, and we wish him and the All French company all the best! Thank you for hosting us and the wonderful crepes!

This game completed the season, Odinn's Champions finishing up with 2 wins, a draw and 4 losses - not bad for an 11 yr old player!  After being at the bottom of the rung for the last half of the season, this final win out them into 6th place and a certain young man was very happy not to win a wooden spoon!

Overall stats wise, the Norse scored 6 TDs while conceding 11.  For Casualties, they inflicted 14 Cas (including 4 deaths - of whom 3 were elves) while taking 19 (including 5 Deaths, of which 3 were journeymen!) of their own.  Norse Runner No 4 Fafnir Bearclaw came in equal second in the League for TD's with 4 to his credit, and the Yeti Angry Agnarr come in equal third for league casualties with 4 to his name.

It has been a great first season and we have met some great players - we look forward to more action in the ACTBBL!!!

Eucalyptus Bowl 2012

I've been away this week (more on that later) but home in time this week for Miss Lass's 15th Birthday celebrations, and go with Right Stuff to the biggest Blood Bowl competition in Australia: The Eucalyptus Bowl! (http://eucalyptus-bowl.doubleskulls.net/index.php)

Despite that I am more an Agility style coach by style (not that I've ever played pointy ears though!) I decided I should give my Terrorcotta Tearers their first outing.  Actually, this was the first time I've ever played a Khemri team, or indeed played in any tournament.  So it would all be a good learning experience.  We also caught up with a bunch of guys we know, including Paul Deacon (who came from NZ to play!) who told us all about his experience at Three Die Brawl in Ohio, which sounded fantastic.

Anyhow, EucBowl is a 1.15million resurrection tourney with no double skills allowed.  My team roster was:
  • 4 Tomb Guardians - all with Stand Firm (I really debated taking this vs Guard)
  • 2 Blitz-Ras, 1 with Strip Ball
  • 1 Throw-Ra with Leader
  • 1 Throw-Ra with Kick Off Return
  • 5 Skeletons with no skills (giving me 1 spare player)
  • 2 ReRolls (making 3 with the Leader ReRoll)
  • 1 Fan factor
EucBowl is a 6 match Tourney held over 2 days, but as I mentioned Saturday was Miss Lass's birthday.  However, they do allow 1 day entries so we did the right thing and spent Saturday spoiling our young Lady, then had ourselves a Blood Bowl Sunday!

Game 1 vs Highgarden Hornets (Humans)
This was one of the most beautifully painted teams I have seen - wonderfully detailed in yellow and white.
I gave away +2 FAME, Weather was nice, and I won the toss and elected to receive.
I got under the ball, formed up into a cage and then started to march down the pitch.

The stand firm on the Tomb Guardians was fantastic and though it cost me some casualties not having mighty blow it kept my cage nicely intact - especially against the Ogre (who had Break Tackle and was hard to hold down). It took me the whole fist half, but I finally ground down to the other end to be 1 up at half time.

The Hornets came back in the second half with a vengeance, but my Tomb Guardians got their blood lust up and started really taking some pieces off the pitch.  When the Ogre departed badly hurt the humans really couldn't stand up to the strength of the Tomb Guardians at all.  I managed to turn the ball over and started sprinting to the end zone for a second TD- and yes he tripped over the line!  The sting was taken out of that by winning 1 nil though.
Samples of the wonderfully painted Human team
Game 2 vs Southern Country Bloodletters (Ogres)
I got +1 FAME for this game, the weather remained nice and once again I won the toss and elected to receive (it worked last game so what not try it again?).
The intimidating Ogre lineup!
The ball stopped bouncing just inside my endzone and 5 nasty looking Ogre bore down on me - quite intimidating!  He had taken Guard on two of them (which was just nasty), Multiple Block, Strong Arm, and Juggernaught.  I found this tough to counter with my four Tomb Guardians and it was a very different game to the first one when I could mass strength whenever I wanted.  But the Ogres were determined to get some blood and really wailed into the tombs, so I broke a Blitz Ra and 2 Skelies down the right widezone in a cloud formation and did something unexpected - launched a long pass into the middle of them from my backfoeld!  Typically, it was inaccurate, but it dropped in the middle of them half way in the opposition half.  The Ogres continued to beat up my Tomb Guardians (supported by a horde of snotlings) which gave my guys the time they needed to pick up the ball and move down to the back corner.  4 turns to go in the half and I was having a real dillema - grab the score or delay and risk my Tomb Guardians gettting killed?  Amazingly, they stood up to all the pummelling and fouling, with nothing worse than a stun so I prayed to Nuffle and stalled it out to score on Turn 8 with all Tomb Guardians still on the pitch.  He still has a turn 8 to go though, so I set up for a 1turn TD defence and was fortunate that the ball dropped into the back corner in the endzone so he just wailed on the skeletons.

Even ganging up 3 to 1, the Ogres couldn't take down the Tomb Guardians
The second half started with Ogres getting a Quick Snap and after a bit of beating around, a snotling got tossed to score in turn 3 and make it 1 all.  I received and drove up the rightwide zone.  I broke through pretty well with a cloud formation holding out the Ogres and hitting any snotlings in range.  I was ready to turn burn again when the initiative shifted dramatically to the Ogres when they KOed two Tomb Guardians in a single turn.  That got me pretty rattled I must admit so pushed it over the line to be up in Turn 5.  That gave the Ogres 3 turns to equalize, and only 1 Tomb Guardian returned from the KO box...
The disturbing OGRE Cheerleader!
The opening turn of the next Ogre drive started badly for me: of the 3 skelies on the line of scrimmage two were KOed and one went to the casualty box!!!  The snotlings grabbed the ball, got it up to the Ogres and another snotling went airborne.  He landed OK, but because he had scattered backwards 1 square he ended up 1 spot short of the endzone after sprinting.  I got a Blitz-Ra back there for a desperation block and got the *Pow* result I needed to put him down.  The ball scattered out and got tossed into my back field 3 or 4 squares in from the TD line with 1 turn to go.  I decided to play it safe and put 5 tackle zones around the ball, only to have an Ogre throw another snotling into the fray.  Amusingly, the snotling landed on the Ogre that had rushed down to help and then ricocheted around to knock down two of my players as well!  But time was up and I took the Win with 2 TDs to 1.  Phew - right down to the wire!

Game 3 vs Raging Wood (Wood Elves)
Having unexpectedly pulled off two wins for the day, I was amazed to find myself on the 'top table' for the Sunday only players.  Against Wood Elves? Right Stuff summed it up well with a smiling "Well it was a good run while it lasted" (note that this Wood Elf team had just destroyed Right Stuff's team, but he can write about that later).  We tied for gate this game (thanks to my 1 Fan factor!), the weather stayed nice, and yet again I won the toss and elected to receive (third time is a charm right?).
I hate those leaping Wardancers!!!
This was a tough, tough game.  I drove down the centre in my cage formation, only to have those darn wardancers leap in twice to knock down the ball carrier (I hate those guys!)  I managed to recover it each time though and get right up to striking distance only to get pounced in the end and fail to score.  It was really tough elf defence and I just couldn't smash my way through.

Another of my ultimately unsuccessful cages against the Woodies
The second half started and pretty soon I found myself resetting to receive after some typical elf magic and a 2 turn touchdown.  1 nil down, all the KOed Elves came back and I was on the wrong end of a Blitz.  Nuffle's luck was turning.  I got turned over by a Wardancer once more and then was defending again, determined to hold him to only a single TD win.  As he broke though a channel I hadnt seen though, I got my chance for my own magic - blocked down the ball carrier, some clearance blocks with other players to make a lane (expending my last reroll to recover from double skulls) and then the hard stuff Khemri dont do well - pickup with Blitz-Ra, handoff to a Throw-Ra and a run down and across field.  A skellie ran down after him to provide some cover.  The elves got a catcher and a linelf back there to jam me up and it all came down to the last few moves with no reroll left - I got another player up there to cancel the assists and the Throw Ra had to blitz his way free - Double Pows!  Just have to sprint twice to score - surely I would be tripping over the line again? No!!  He scores and the game finishes as a 1 all tie!!!

So 2 wins and a Draw!  WoW!  Not too shabby given that I showed up and just hoped not to go home with 3 losses (but quite prepared to, new team and all).  And the same win record for my final opponent too...   After some kind of number crunching by the admins, I was surprised and proud to be awarded a medal and prize for the Best Sunday Coach!!!! And my prize?  A band new Greebo Chaos Dwarf team!  Totally Sweet!

A massive thanks to all my opponents - as you can see it could have all gone the other way if Nuffle had decided - and to Richard Andrew the EucBowl organiser who put in a huge effort to put on such an awesome Tourney!
