Turnip28: descent into madness

Its been a bit busy of late, as usual, with lots of travel, but we did get to go to the local show last weekend - Mother of All Battles, aka MOAB. Nice to have it back after 2 years of pandemic cancellations.  Caught up with lots of gamer mates, bought way too much at the bring & buy - none of which I will admit to regretting - and it was a welcome injection of hobby invigoration.

My first foray into Turnip28...

Over the last month I have been drawn inexorably down the twisted and strange path of Turnip28. It started as a laugh to annoy certain historically focused gamers who frequently decry the lamentable 'space pixies', but its really grown on me.  People cleverer than I have described Turnip28 as a "delightfully dreary setting" and:

More broadly, I am trying to develop better creativity, confidence in kit bashing and modifying figures, and just using up spare bits from old kits which might go together well. I can also take a baggie of bits and some tools with me on the road - the ability to sneak in some hobby time here and there has been great.

Hobby skills speaking, its a chop and then slap-chop paint process, which focuses on texture and grimdark appeal. Thus, its quite liberating at the hobby desk and has been a lot of fun.

Having a hoot loading up on Despoilers and Ravagers (still WIP) supported by Khârn and an Apothecary, and just wailing on dudes. Skulls for the XIIth Legion! 

I won 6-4 on secondary VP. More importantly we all had an awesome time enjoying the immersive narrative and theme.

Note to self: Must remember not to open fire between moving and firing, so as not to invite a volley in reaction fire!

Battlegroup Stalingrad

Today we were hosted by Slowpainter John to a big 6 player game of BG Stalingrad to commemorate the Anniversary of the Battle.  We played in 28mm to suit the infantry focus, rather than our usual 15mm. Alan and Marty painted new armies for the occasion and club buddies Aled, Iz and Lachy completed the list of combatants.

There was a swag of new terrain on the fabulous looking table, including the ruined apartment block terrain that I did in AHPC12  seeing action for the first time. Gotta say I was rather happy with how it came out, which included Comrade Alan boiling up a bunch of Soviet Assault squads from the basement

Better than any game report was just how great everything looked. So here are some key pics which I have used filters to give an authentic combat photographer vibe.
