D is for Dirty Player

To quote the Rulebook: ‘A player with this skill has trained long and hard to learn every dirty trick in the book’.  This skills enhances the chance that a Foul (which is essentially one of your players kicking an opposing player who is on the ground) will be successful in stunning, Knocking out or Injuring the target player by adding a +1 modifier to the die rolls.
A Minotaur Fouls an opposing player in the PC version of Blood Bowl
Dirty Player is therefore a useful skill to have on your team.  However, there is still a chance that the Referee will see the Foul and eject the fouling player for the remainder of the game (this happens if the fouling roll is a double, regardless of whether the opposing player is hurt or not).  Accordingly, it is prudent to take this skill on a cheap Lineman who you can afford to loose, rather than on an expensive player who you can't.  Its then worthwhile when your cheap Dirty Player fouls an opposing player with lots of skills, even if you get chucked out by the Ref for your troubles!

Thus Elf Wardancers and Werewolves, who are very expensive as high performing players, are sometimes known as foul magnets!

  1. I get a preview of the letter, since you live in the future ;) You can probably guess what skill I like to add to a Dirty Player ;)

  2. As long as the dirty player doesn't cheat, and he helps his team win or lose fair and square, healthy competition skills tend to keep things pretty interesting, which is probably why we need instant replay...
