September Hobby Roundup

Well lockdown continued throughout the month so all hobby time was spent at the workbench.

I've been working hard on my Kill team starter box. The terrain is all done and the Ork Kommandos are being lavished with attention.

Named The Durty Duzen, these are the first 40k Orks I have done and I've lavished attention on these lovely sculpts. I'm having trouble getting my basing material at the moment, so while the models are done, the bases aren't.

I'll reveal them when they are finished but here is a WIP shot for now.  In the meantime the Krieg were posted off to Reilly in Sydney so we will be good to go when we next get together.

Separately, Alan and I have split another Caesarian Army box between us for our Civil Wars project.  So I've got another 5 units of Legionaries in the pipeline now - Pullo and Vorenus are keeping me company while I work through them :-)

I may also have recently grabbed a small ebay lot of 50 odd Foundry Early Imperial Romans - they always come in handy and who can choose just one period of Romans right?...

Only 2 months until I pack up the Man Cave (again!) and move back to Sydney.

Caesarian Army on Parade!

Having added a few units to the force in the last month, I thought it time to update the army pics - here they all drawn up in formation ready for action.  Just a couple of characters and commanders left to go in the box (at the moment...)

Currently the force consists of 10 units, being:

5 Units of Legionary Infantry - 3 in white shields and 2 in yellow shields so I can differentiate veterans, auxilia, inexperienced etc

1 unit of Roman Cavalry

1 unit of Gallic tribesman allies

2 units of auxiliary archers

1 scorpion bolt thrower

They are all Warlord figs with LBM shield decals on the infantry and cavalry shields hand painted. I've sabot based for use with Infamy Infamy, though with solid plans to experimenting in other rules sets also.  We are blessed with so many great rule sets at the moment (Soldiers of Rome, Impetus, Hail Caesar, and WAB amongst them), so this was a key consideration for me. As a result, all the close order style figs are based on 20mm square to give options. I am considering doing some group basing on 50mm square for future expansions though, to add some character and dynamic feeling.

Finally, this army was painted over two sets of quarantine, so I know that it was finished in 28 days :-) Thanks to Comrade James and Alan for providing some push to get these ready.

Caesarian Roman Cavalry

My Caesarian Romans can now call upon Cavalry support in their conquest of Gaul or in the righteous fight against the elitist Senate!

I finished these off at the tail end of my recent quarantine and have now got them based.

These are metal figs by Warlord with wire spears and hand painted shields.  I deliberately tired to put some variation amongst them to reflect their less regular nature in comparison to the Legions' more rigid organisation, equipment and disciplina

Curiously, these may be the first historical Cavalry I have painted, other than the mechanised kind. Should I expand my Gaul ally contingent in the future, I will likely add a unit of Gallic Noble Cavalry to support them (a classic auxilia role for tribal allies)

A few characters and command stands to come, but with that I have painted all the units I have for this army! For now anyway...  Alan and I are concocting plans to expand our armies to play Soldiers of Rome as well as Infamy Infamy

August Hobby Roundup

The lockdown across most of Australia has taken a toll on face to face gaming for the most part, but its been a productive month regardless, with isolation assisting.  First up game wise was the "Port Jackson Isolation Blood Bowl League" which saw Reilly pit his Blood Marsh Maulers (Chaos Chosen) against my Darkland Decimators (Chaos Dwarves). Starting from a scratch start we played 10 games to develop them into brutal machines (admittedly his was a bit more terrifying though).  The head to head Minotaur matchups were particularly fun!

Naturally, our local Blood Bowl League is on hold, though we did get a fourth round mostly finished before the pause began:

Meanwhile on the hobby front, I've posted separately about starting 3d printing, my Necromunda Enforcers and terrain, and some additions to my Caesarian Roman army.  I'm now finishing off some cavalry to join them (and planning more expansions naturally), and the new edition of Kill Team has just been delivered too...
