Back to the 'Nam

Interesting Vietnam gaming news on two fronts this week:

First up, Flashpoint Miniatures are getting close to releasing their new Vietnam rules which is great news.  I know Jimmi there has been working hard on them and having had some long chats with him about what he wanted to do with them, I'm excited!

Secondly, Battlefront is expanding their Vietnam range later this year with some lovely Brown Water Navy goodness.  Love 'em or hate 'em, their figs are nice and spur new www eye candy! See the news release below

This will also be reinforced with me starting a University elective on the Vietnam War shortly, everything from the French facing off against the Viet Minh to the Chinese expedition in early 1979 - excellent!  I'm looking forward to delving back into my Nam gaming collection when I eventually get home!  Thanks to Steve from Sound Officer's Call for rekindling my interest with his eye candy!

This book cover the river fighting in the delta’s and allows you to fight a completely new style of Vietnam game. With a complete range of riverine boats to choose, from the little PBR’s to the big CCB Monitors these boats give your US forces the ability to assault the river banks and carve their way into the jungle. Never one to make it easy for the US the VC have a few tricks up their sleeves making this environment a truly unique gaming theatre.

  1. Paul,
Looking forward to seeing some good gaming and you should showcase those gorgeous Vietnam War figures you have again! I will be having a Battlegroup: Modern Vietnam game with mine hopefully soon - just have to dig all that jungle terrain out!

    1. I am really looking forward to seeing how that works out because, as you know, I love that Rule system. Having seen Warwick's attitude toward the forthcoming adaptation for the desert (in WSS77) I have no doubt he will take a similar approach for jungle fighting when he gets to the Pacific Theatre.

In that article he says: "it’s my intention that eventually
the series will cover all of WWII in maybe ten or twelve
nice books, each one having a laser focus on a particular theatre or period of the
war, but each one giving a different gaming experience and feel, and not just being
rehashes of same stuff, but with different tank models. Fighting in the Pacific won’t
feel anything like fighting in France in 1944. They will be different games."

That will give us a great adaptation for Vietnam, but of course we won't be waiting that long to start will we!

    2. Paul,
I've never been one to wait. "Initiative is the hallmark of the Army officer" :p

It's funny, that quote from Warwick because BGO does have a completely different feel to it. Try playing a game of BGO like a game of BGK and you're in for a rude awakening as the allies. (burning Shermans and lots of pinned infantry).

  2. Should be a great release by Battlefront and Flashpoint. Got miniatures from both of them and they are both excellent.
    cheers

    1. Always do, but care needs to ensure that immersion doesn't result in drowning!
