Can't see the Forest...

I'm as guilty as most in usually spending lots of time on models but not the accompanying terrain.  I found these trees in a Man Cave clean up this week which I got from Glynn at Fernvale Speciality Scenics (see them here). I realised I had gotten them at Cancon almost a year ago and hadn't done anything with them - time for action!
I cut the bases from mdf with a hole saw and used my typical basing technique.  They came out pretty good I think.  The tall light green ones are very nice indeed, and this large number is a beauty.  They are probably best suited for 28mm gaming, but wont look too out of place in 15mm.

  1. Very nice, I'm trying to make my own but have been for a while I may have to acquire some this way.

  3. I, too have spent some time these past few weeks contemplating trees, I need a lot of tree and hedge cover for a 28mm ww2 board that's in thee works but have so far been unsatisfied - the sturdy trees look awful, and the lovely looking seamoss constructions are way too fragile.

those tall light green ones look the buisness tho.. do you know who makes them? or what armatures/flock they are constructed from?

    1. Glynn at Fernvale has them - those ones are approx 190mm high, Stock #3026101 is what is on the box

  4. Bear in mind that the average wargames tree is way too short :D A 6" tree in 15mm is only 70' high (which compares favourably to the one near my house, for example).

See also my blog (the Into The Woods series) on trees. I'm still ironing out a few issues with getting the foliage to stay on, but the Woodland Scenics armatures seem to be a good base.

  5. Very nice basing Paul. As Mike has said wargame trees are usually a bit on the short side!

  10. Well done! I like the basing idea. I had not thought of that.

I really need to start working on more scenery. Hopefully your post will provide the inspiration.

  11. Very nice trees, their appearance can transform the battlefield, but such trees are often darn expensive to buy!

  13. Thanks all, I'm very pleased with them. I think the basing helps the overall appearance but more importantly it helps keep them upright!
